July 16.  Aerial view from shed roof.  Forms are up.  Blue foamboard is to insulate slab and footings from ground.  The uninsulated areas have been left for the waste plumbing rough in below the concrete.  Concrete by WJH concrete of Mayville.  Thanks Willie!  This is the first frost protected shallow foundation in Tuscola County and may be the first in the state.

Waste plumbing goes into sand below insulation.

July 19th, waste plumbing passes inspection.  Thanks Norm and Tom.  Now the insulation and welded wire mesh can go down.

Here’s the foundation before the concrete pour with the radiant heat tubing tied to the wire mesh.  The wooden box toward the lower right contains the copper manifold where the plastic tubing is connected.  The manifold box protects the copper from contact with the concrete (below left).  The tubing is filled with air at a pressure of 50lbs/in.  We maintained that pressure all night before the pour and then reduced to 20 lbs for the pour. (below right).

Radiant heating materials were obtained from the Radiantec Company of Vermont.  They provided design assistance and are very helpful.  Everything worked just as they said it would.

July 26th 7:30 am.  Time to place the concrete and it’s raining.  The rest of the day was great….dark, cloudy, and humid…..but no more rain.

The footing wall was poured first, then the slab floor.  Here’s the concrete going into the first corner (left).  And about half poured (right).

Concrete into the last corner of the floor (left) and finish trowelling (right).

Here’s the finished floor slab/foundation.

We’re starting to make progress. Here is the electric service waiting for hookup on Aug 5 (left) and the well Aug 6 (right).

Thanks to Jerry and Richard for the electric and Bill Cragg for the well.
