Framing the House, Week Three, Aug 26-31.

Second story wall framing was completed on Monday and Tuesday and the exterior walls were sheathed with ˝”osb.  The roof trusses were scheduled to be set on Wednesday, August 28th.

You can see the trusses piled in the right foreground.

Had to move an short interior wall due to a change from a 60” tub to a 72” tub.

The 1” foam board to cover the exterior is stacked in the garage and should go up next week before the doors and windows are put in.

The foam breathes a little and can let water vapor out of the wall but will not allow water in liquid form into the wall.  Any water that gets in behind the siding will flow down the surface of the foam and out at the bottom of the wall.  It will also keep air from moving into the wall and add about R5 to the Rvalue of the wall.

Here’s a look at the north wall with the sheathing applied on the 2nd story.

Things are moving along so fast now that it is scary.

We still have to sort out the electrical and plumbing installation and resolve the heat source dilemma for the radiant in floor heating.  We’re handling this part of the job ourselves.

Bob says they should have the roof shingled by the end of the day on Friday.  At that point we’ll be weather tight and can start the rough plumbing and electric work.

Next week the foam will be put on the walls and then the doors and windows will be installed.

The trusses have a twelve inch heel at the wall to allow for insulation over the top of the wall. (right)

The roof overhang at the eaves is three feet.  This will keep the summer sun off the front windows and bring the roof down over the wall which should look good. (left)
