Framing the House, Week One

Bob Bauer pulled in his trailer Tuesday afternoon, August 13, so his crew could get an early start on Wednesday.  Bob did a remodeling job on the office building where Walt works last year and we are lucky to get him.  He and his crew are excellent builders and stick with a project until it’s completed.

Bob’s crew was on the job early Wednesday morning, but the materials weren’t delivered until 11 and rain delayed any real work until Thursday.

Materials from front to back: LVL for beams, 2x12 header material, ½” osb wall sheathing, 2x6 pre-cut studs.

By Thursday afternoon Bob’s got three walls up.  The osb from the upper story will overlap the lower level wall studs by about a foot and tie the floors together real well.

Here’s a view from the shed roof.  The garage end walls are framed and laying on the slab waiting to go up Friday morning when the LVL header material arrives.

Two stud corner.

Pink sill gasket material seals the mudsill-slab joint.

Window header before the osb is cut out.

Header material is set flush with outside of studs so insulation can be placed inside it.

Friday afternoon, August 16th, the garage wall is up along with all the interior walls and the beams to support the 2nd floor.

View looking through the garage door openings (left) and of cantilevered center beam (right).  The beam will carry the floor inside the house and support the deck outside.

View from the shed roof shows the two work rooms at the far end, entry area center right, garage at near end.

Ladder bracing (left) ties interior wall to exterior wall and allows insulation to be blown in behind it.

Electric pole and underground service went in on Friday too (right)….no need to use the generator anymore.

Pretty good for two days work!
